Between 8th-12th of October an annual global celebration "Positive Week" was held. It celebrates the brands and individuals that care about people and planet. Besides the week-long digital campaign, on the October 11th were hosted two panel discussions: “What Luxury Means Today” and “Sustainability Means Business”, featuring relevant insights from key leaders in the luxury industry.

Today sustainability is one of the most relevant topics in the fashion industry. Second to oil, fashion and textiles are the  industries in the world. Every stage in garment’s lifecycle threatens our planet and its resources. It can take more than 20,000 litres of water to produce 1kg of cotton, equivalent to a single t-shirt and pair of jeans. Up to 8,000 different chemicals are used to turn raw materials into clothes, and for a range of dyeing and finishing processes.

 and innovations open possibilities for luxury companies to develop solutions which can improve environmental and social performance and at the same time satisfy consumers’ needs in sustainability. Luxury has a strong power as the trend leader that drives industry forward. Among the luxury brands that are setting an inspiring example and proving that luxury fashion can be conscious and desirable - , , .

Chief Innovation Officer of FTL, Dr Amanda Parkes presented Future Tech Lab’s insight and perspective on how we can re-invent fashion’s production cycle by injecting innovative technologies, under the theme “Closing the Loop”, calling the industry and consumers to adopt a more ethical and sustainable approach on the annual in Hong Kong. 

The Summit took place on the 6-7 September for the second time after making its successful debut last year. This year’s theme was ”Fashion Summit - Circular Economy” discussing tomorrow’s sustainability solutions for fashion. The sustainable development was addressed from the perspectives of innovation, manufacturing, design and branding as well as consumer initiatives. The first day of the event included the results of a Global Sustainable Consumption survey and panels discussions on different topics such as sustainable fashion evolution, financing and blockchain technology, how re-industrialization benefits Hong Kong fashion etc. The second day was given over to the annual Innovation and Technology Symposium organized by the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA). This part was dedicated to the ‘re-imagining of the industry': presenting inspiring ideas and new technologies about sustainability for the fashion industry.
