8 Health Benefits of Probiotics
Lose weight with probiotic bacteria
Feeling your years add up? Then it could be down to your diet. A new study from Ontario's McMaster University found that a poor diet can trigger inflamation within the body, with foods high in sugar and fat 'imbalancing' your gut bacteria, ageing your cells and taking years from your life.
Not all bacteria was created equally, though. So, if you thought 'friendly bacteria' were a ploy to sell overpriced yoghurts to overweight women, think again – they’re fast emerging as critical to many aspects of health, particularly weight control. Probiotics (beneficial bacteria) affect nutrient absorption, which regulates your appetite and propensity for fat storage; if they’re out of whack, you’re likely to be out of shape. The good news: probiotics and prebiotics (the fibres they feed on) can dramatically accelerate fat loss. In one study, mice lost 50% of their excess weight with no other changes. But you don’t need expensive supps. Load up on these microbial foods to tip the scales in your favour.
