Show report: Versus A/W’12
The sound of dripping water and puddles on the Versus runway greeted us on day five of Milan Fashion Week
The sound of dripping water and puddles on the Versus runway greeted us on day five of Milan Fashion Week.
Christopher Kane and Donatella Versace wanted to take us to Camden town with their Versus collection and they easily achieved this, not only with the classic British weather sound effects and grimy streets, but with an edgy, grungy collection that was oh-so-girl-about-Camden-town.
Opening looks focused on slick leathers in rich burgundy with black leather laced up sleeves and leggings. Kane then moved to moody blues with geometric prints before switching to sexed-up. figure-hugging dresses, some sheer with ribbed paneling, all teamed with open toe ankle or over-the-knee boots.
Yet, it was the tie-dye prints that were the most refreshing. Some again featuring leather lacing while others blended or contrasted with those gorgeous geometric prints.
All channeled that grungy Saturday night in Camden style that Kane understands so well.
It’s dirty but pretty, light but dark and, as the glamourous but tough looking models stomped through the grimy catwalk puddles, you knew it was a mood that only Kane could portray to the polished Milanese audience so well.
