Trend Report: Pre-Fall 2011
t is hard to believe that summer is already winding down and fall is just around the corner. The good news, however, is that this transitional period—known in the business as pre-fall—is teeming with amazing trends that you are certain to fall in love with. In view of that, we’d like to welcome you to our latest Trend Report! Today’s story has four fab pre-fall ideas with inspiration from four stylish stars: Malin Akerman, Nicole Richie, Olivia Palermo, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. On that note, if you are ready for a pre-fall fashion fix, we suggest you sit back and read on!
If you are looking for something guaranteed to flatter, take note: drapery is having a major moment. Notable labels like Helmut Lang, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Reed Krakoff, and Ports 1961 all showed draped dresses for pre-fall. Plus, stars like Malin Akerman (pictured) have been showing us how to work the look with ease. To get a jump start on this trend, make sure you check out McQ by Alexander McQueen’s (5), Diane Von Furstenberg’s (5), and Lanston’s (). Pair your favorite with killer heels while it is warm. When the weather turns, do as Malin has done and switch to chunky wedges.
Printed Maxi Dresses
The spring runways teemed with references to the 1970s, so it’s no surprise to see the decade has also influenced the pre-fall collections. How, you ask? Well, dear readers, labels like Burberry Prorsum, Tibi, and Tory Burch all presented printed maxi dresses with a bohemian twist. If you want to get a jump start on this trend, take your style cues from Nicole Richie (pictured), who paired her Ella Moss dress with modern accessories—specifically, a leather belt, a clutch, and chunky heels. On that note, we suggest you check out Free People’s (.95), Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent’s (0) and Anthropologie’s (.95).
As you know, bold colors were a major spring theme, but how did they transition to pre-fall? Through color-blocking, of course! Brands such as Diane von Furstenberg, DKNY, and Rachel Roy all teamed bright colors with other bright colors, creating an intense yet stunning visual effect. Off the runway, stars like Olivia Palermo (pictured) have been working the trend to full effect. If you are ready to this this bold look for yourself, make sure you check out DKNY’s (5), Eight Sixty’s (), and Sparkle & Fade’s (). To take the trend one step further, follow Olivia’s lead and add an equally colorful clutch!
There is always a wealth of leather on the runway, particularly in fall collections, but what was most notable in the pre-fall collections was how leather was used. For instance, while Michael Kors used leather to accent a maxi dress, the Olsen twins used leather as the focus of their pre-fall collection for The Row. To try this look for yourself, take note of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (pictured), who recently wore a leather dress with simple heels. The result? A sophisticated and stylish ensemble. On that note, we recommend checking out Rag & Bone’s (5), Shakuhachi’s (8), and Andrew Marc’s (9).
